Here’s a piece of Oak Ridge Boys history that many collectors overlook their 1980 Canadian Liberty pressing of “At Their Best.” This compilation captures the Boys during a pivotal moment when they were transitioning from their gospel roots into mainstream country stardom. Released the same year as their breakthrough hit “Elvira,” this collection showcases the tight harmonies and spiritual foundation that would remain their signature even as they conquered the country charts. The Oak Ridge Boys had been performing since the 1940s in various lineups, but by 1980, the classic quartet of Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban had found their groove.
