Here’s a pressing that doesn’t surface often in North American collections the 1979 Canadian Polydor issue of James Last’s “Everlasting Love.” While Last’s orchestral pop arrangements were massively successful throughout Europe in the ’70s and ’80s, this particular Canadian pressing represents an interesting moment when Polydor was testing the waters for his crossover appeal in the North American market. The album showcases Last’s signature “happy sound” approach to contemporary hits, transforming radio favorites into lush orchestral arrangements that somehow manage to be both sophisticated and wonderfully accessible.
