Here’s a fascinating piece of big band history that serious jazz collectors shouldn’t overlook. This 1970 Canadian RCA Victor pressing of “Glenn Miller – A Memorial 1944-1969” represents something quite poignant in the world of swing music a 25th anniversary tribute to one of the most influential bandleaders of the 20th century, released exactly a quarter-century after Miller’s mysterious disappearance over the English Channel in December 1944. What makes this compilation particularly compelling is its thoughtful curation of Miller’s most enduring arrangements, spanning from his final recordings before that fateful wartime flight through various posthumous releases that kept his musical legacy alive during the post-war years.
