Here’s a piece of Clapton history that often gets overlooked in favor of his more celebrated works, but “Another Ticket” represents a fascinating transitional period in Eric’s career. Released in 1981 on RSO, this was essentially Clapton’s farewell to the label before moving to Warner Bros, and it captures him at a crossroads between his blues roots and a more commercial rock sound. The album features some genuinely underrated material, including the title track and “I Can’t Stand It,” which became his biggest hit in years, reaching the top 10. What makes this period particularly interesting is that Clapton was working with a tight, road-tested band and producer Tom Dowd, resulting in a more cohesive sound than some of his more scattered 70s output.
