Here’s something that doesn’t surface very often Big Ross & The Memphis Sound’s tribute to the King on Canadian Pickwick/33 Records. This is one of those fascinating budget label oddities from the late 60s or early 70s that tells the story of how Elvis’s influence rippled through every corner of the music world. Pickwick was notorious for their quickie cover albums, but this one stands apart because Big Ross wasn’t just phoning it in. The Memphis Sound was a legitimate funk and soul outfit that brought their own groove-heavy interpretation to Elvis classics, transforming them into something that sits somewhere between tribute and reinvention.
