Here’s a Canadian pressing of Stella Parton’s self-titled 1978 album on Elektra, representing a fascinating crossroads moment for the younger sister of country royalty. While Dolly was conquering Nashville and beginning her pop crossover, Stella took a different path entirely with this release, diving headfirst into a rock-influenced sound that puts her squarely in the realm of late 70s album rock. The production here leans heavily on electric guitars and driving rhythms, with Stella’s powerful vocals anchoring songs that wouldn’t sound out of place on FM rock radio of the era.
