Martin Flynn’s “Shades Of Green” represents one of the more compelling artifacts from Canada’s vibrant late-70s folk scene, a period when Celtic musicians were finding their voice in the New World context. Flynn, an Irish immigrant who settled in Ontario, brought an authentic traditional sensibility while incorporating subtle North American influences that distinguished his work from purely traditional recordings. This 1979 release on Hall Of Music showcases his fingerpicking guitar style and weathered vocals across a collection of both ancient ballads and his own compositions, creating a bridge between old-world storytelling and contemporary folk expression.
