Here’s a fascinating piece of Sonny & Cher history that often gets overlooked in favor of their bigger commercial hits. “In Case You’re In Love” captures the duo at a particularly creative moment in 1967, when Sonny Bono was really hitting his stride as a songwriter and producer. This album showcases a more mature sound than their earlier folk-rock efforts, with Bono incorporating more sophisticated arrangements and harmony work that would influence their later television persona. The album features some genuine deep cuts that reveal the duo’s range beyond the obvious singles, including Bono’s underrated composition work that draws from his time in Phil Spector’s orbit.
